CCE or Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation scheme refers to a school-based evaluation of students that covers all the aspects of a student’s development. Continuous means regular assessments, analysis of learning gaps, applying corrective measures, retesting and giving feedback to teachers and students for their self-evaluation, etc. Comprehensive, on the other hand, attempts to cover both the scholastic and the co-scholastic aspects of a student’s growth and development – with both these aspects of the evaluation process being assessed through Formative and Summative Assessments.
In FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT, emphasis is more on activities rather than on written examinations. These include quizzes, interviews, conversations, visual testing, oral testing, projects, practicals and assignments.
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT is in the form of a written test conducted by the school at the end of each term.
The Examination and Evaluation system being adopted by the school for classes VI to X is based on the guidelines of CCE. The entire academic session will be divided into two terms spanning April to September and October to March. Students will be assessed in both Scholastic and Co-scholastic areas.
– Scholastic aspects include curricular areas or subject specific areas.
– Co-scholastic aspects include Life-skills, Co-curricular activities, attitudes and values.
Each academic year has been divided into two terms:
First Term : FA1(10%)+FA2(10%)+SA1(30%) = 50%
Second Term : FA3(10%)+FA4(10%)+SA2(30%) = 50%
The Scholastic area will be assessed through:
Formative Assessment – This assessment of the student will be carried out by the teacher formally and informally.
Formal Activities:- Through Unit Tests, MCQ, projects, class performance, quizzes, class assignments and home assignments, worksheets, role play, group discussion etc.
Informal Activities:- Through oral work, field trips etc.
Summative Assessment – Through Terminal Examinations to be conducted at the end of each term.
Note:
(a) It is mandatory to obtain at least 25% marks in the Summative Assessments (both SA1 and SA2 taken together). Those obtaining less than 25% marks in a subject in SA1+SA2 shall not qualify in that subject.
(b) To qualify in a subject, a candidate must obtain minimum Grade D.
(c) Those candidates who have obtained Grade E1 or E2 in the subject(s) shall have to improve their performance within one month from the declaration of result to qualify in the subject(s)
