Report on the Workshop on Isolation of DNA

A workshop on “Isolation of DNA” was organized in our school for the students of medical sections of Classes XI and XII. The workshop was held on 13th May 2026 during school hours in the school campus. The workshop was conducted by the renowned resource person V.K Singh. The session aimed to provide students with practical knowledge about DNA extraction and its importance in the field of Biology and Biotechnology.

The workshop began with an introduction to DNA, its structure, and its role as the genetic material in living organisms. Mr. Singh explained the importance of DNA in heredity, forensic science, medical research, and genetic engineering. His presentation was highly informative and engaging, helping students understand complex concepts in a simple manner.

During the practical session, students learned the step-by-step procedure for isolating DNA from plant material using common laboratory chemicals and equipment. The resource person demonstrated the process carefully and encouraged students to perform the experiment themselves under guidance. Students have done following activities-

1.Plant DNA Isolation 2.Blood DNA Isolation 3.Hair DNA Isolation 4. Saliva DNA Isolation 5.Agarose Gel Electrophoresis 6.DNA Photography 7.DNA Fingerprinting Analysis Lecture  Students observed the white thread-like DNA precipitate, which created great excitement and curiosity among them.

Mr. Singh also discussed safety measures to be followed in the laboratory and highlighted the significance of scientific experimentation in modern biology. The interactive nature of the workshop allowed students to ask questions and clear their doubts regarding genetics and biotechnology.

The workshop proved to be highly beneficial and educational. It enhanced the scientific temperament of students and inspired many to explore careers in biological sciences. The Principal, teachers, and students expressed their gratitude to V.K Singh for conducting such an enriching session.

Overall, the workshop was a great success and provided valuable hands-on learning experience to all participants.
