Safe Touch Awareness Session

‘The safety of children is not a privilege; it is a right. Empowering them with knowledge and confidence is the first step towards protecting that right.

In an effort to foster a safe and respectful environment for the students, the Health & Wellness Programme of Blue Bells Group of Schools, under the mentorship of Dr. Alka Saxena, Associate Director (Social & Emotional Learning), BBGS organized a series of Safe Touch awareness sessions for the Middle Wing  students of Blue Bells Model School to raise awareness about personal safety and security. These sessions were facilitated separately for boys and girls by the life skills facilitators in their Life Skills Education classes during the months of August and September 2025.

The session focused on educating young minds about personal boundaries, body autonomy, and the importance of recognizing and responding to inappropriate behaviour. Through interactive and age-appropriate discussions, visual aids, and real-life scenarios, students were taught to differentiate between safe and unsafe touch, understand the importance of consent, and recognize situations where they should seek help. Emphasis was placed on building self-confidence, encouraging open communication with trusted adults, and reinforcing the message that their bodies belong to them.

The students were also guided on how to respond to uncomfortable situations, including saying “no,” moving away, and reporting to a responsible adult. In addition to discussing personal and stranger safety, the sessions provided information about the school’s health and wellness programmes, including access to counsellors and the Child Helpline Number, ensuring each student is aware of the available resources and seeks help when needed.

Students actively participated, asked thoughtful questions, and shared their concerns, reflecting the effectiveness of the session in raising awareness. The initiative was a vital step towards fostering a culture of safety, respect, and emotional well-being within the school community.
